Question Swirl Valve on 1.9 CDTI 150 replacement.

    Hi all,

My dealer has finally got deliveries of the swirl valve for my 1.9 CDTI (150), it only took just short of 2 months!.

Fair play to the service manager, he did keep me informed and was supprised at how long it took, apparently there is big demand for them at the moment.

It is not just the swirl valve being replaced, but the complete intake manifold, so it looks like there is an issue with the design.

For info, my vec is a facelift 55 plate 1.9 SRi, now with 16562 miles on the clock.

The car will have to be at the dealers for two days and they are supplying me with a loan car for the period FOC as the car is still under warranty.

To be honest the problem only occured whilst I was doing short journeys and after it was diagnosed, and played up a few more times, I went for a blast down the motorway, and drove the car at 5000rpm for 5 minutes, never had any more bother with the swirl valve after that and the car pulled better after that as well.
Must have blown the cobwebs out of the cylinders doing that

Anyone else suffering with the same probs, I've read a few postings on here about probs with this swirl valve, but am wondering wether it's just the tip of the iceberg, esp. seeing how popular this engine is with users.

    I had Swirl valve replaced.

    Symptoms:-

A serious lack of power, the low down torque was ok but no power above 2500rpm.

    mpg worse - 37mpg

    Occasional limp home light on.

As Ion said, no power and limp home mode on.

The low down power is lacking as well, and feels like the turbo never kicks in and you cant rev it over 3000ish rpm.

Prior to that, it just lacks the initial get up and go it used to have.

Leaving it for a while can clear the limp home mode, but you will find that the first time you boot it, it suddenly goes into limp home mode.

This is what kept happening to mine, so one of the occassions it cleared, I happened to be close to the motorway, got to about 80 and put it into 3rd, that revs it nicely at 5000 rpm, then I drove like that for a few miles, no more problems afterwards.

The same for me, mine went at 10k with so many failures you would think that the stealers would be well stocked! and not wait the 2 days for them to be delivered.

My dealer has kept a constant stock of three because of demand.

Blame Fiat for this, as VX use the Fiat power unit.
