Default Limp mode at 2750 rev - 2.2 SRI Diesel.. help

    Hey,

I have had a problem with my 2.2 SRI DTI for over a year now.

At first it was black smoke from the exhaust - seemed to sort this with a simple EGR clean out...

However, i have no power at all in the car, especially when i come to a hill! I pray that i make it over!
It seems to cut out at 2750 revs.

I have changed the inter-cooler hose as it had a huge tear, runs slightly better now under the 2750 revs but still cuts me out once I go over (unless I am in the higher gears, it seems to let me reach 3500).

    Any help would be great...

My turbo was going and after some research I found that I could set a code (spanner etc) by revving to over 2700 for more than 4 seconds. Mine was due to a shagged turbo but as already said damaged boost pipes could also be an issue. The other likely candidate is the Variable vanes in the turbo being clogged and not spinning up the turbo as it expects. This is usually due to short drives with little use of the turbo.

I have ordered all the pipes as the thread shows in my last post... hopefully arrive this weekend so i can fit them.

I drive over 40 miles per day (motorway) so the boost was always in full swing.
Can you 'de-clogg' the variable vanes?

Once i have done the pipes i will pop an update on here with the outcome.

Well one thing I have learnt about the turbo on the vec is that it has a few different bits and if I need another new one in the future I will only be buying the CHRA part and fitting it to my existing turbo housings. Anyway the Vanes can be cleaned but you would have to disassemble the Turbo to do it. To be honest the only reason I said it is because having fitted my new turbo I was worried I may use it to much too soon. However the recon guy said use it normally and make sure its used. He said any journey without much boost would allow carbon build up that will / can reduce the vane deflection resulting in unexpected pressures for a given input.

    If anyone can still help?

I have changed all boost pipes including the intercooler ones
The EGR has been cleaned out
The Throttle body & Boost sensor have been cleaned out
I am looking into the turbo vanes but think thats a garage job...
The fault codes have been cleared but i am always left with code - P1483-04 Fan control circuit open

I have ordered a new boost sensor so will give that ago next week.

The car has handled a lot better and seem to have some power back (can over take) but as soon as I hit the 2750 revs or put it under load on a hill - limp mode!

Love this website and sure there is someone on here that has had the same issues.

Have you fitted a new boost (MAP) sensor now? and have you sprayed all the pipework and intercooler with soapy water to ensure no leaks?

Thanks for the link Steve - i have done everything on there except the Turbo vanes & lowering the boost etc... will look into that one.

James - got a new MAP coming this week so will be popping that on ASAP... I have already changed all my intercooler & boost hoses as they nearly all had a split in them!
