Hi m8. I can't help you sorry, but I'm sure there are others here who could, if you just tell us what car model you have (and year / preface/facelift etc) and also what the original stereo or satnav was in the car and what kind of original Vx display unit you have ?

    Just trying to help bud

    Good luck anyway

    Woody

Edit I can see from your garage that you have a 2.0T 2004 Signum Elite ? Yes ? What radio etc still applies

but when I turn the new head unit on the date goes off but turn it off and the date comes back the original was the tape / cd changer I've no idea on model number as it wasn't in the car when I bought it. The car is a 2.0t elite preface if that's any use

There is a pin you can remove (cut the wire if you must) which will bring that back. I did it on mine originally in my saloon, but then found out that the steering wheel control adapter needed that wire connected to work so promptly re-connected it and lived with the blank part on the screen until I got the screen adaptor for my Alpine unit so it displays track info etc as normal now.

If the screen part is the most important thing to you then yes you can do it, can't remember which it is for the life of me, but double check with a multimeter for one that gets power when the unit's turned on that's connected to the screen, it's that one. Pin 5 seems to be ringing bells but I wouldn't swear to it. Might be in my old saloon ICE thread though.

Seriously though, if you want steering wheel controls, don't bother
