    confused Key Fob works intermittently

    I have a Vectra 52 Plate 2.0DTI Elite.

Been having this problem ever since I got the car and not sure if its the keyfob or the immobilizer that is at fault.

Basically when I leave the car and go to lock it by pressing the button on the key, the key doesnt do anything. I then have to reinsert the key into the ignition and long press the open button on the fob for it to resync to the car.

I then leave the car, close the doors and the car locks no bother. Then the next day when I try to open the car with the keyfob, nothing happens (but my LED sidelights start flashing so I can tell that the car senses a remote signal, just maybe not the right one). I then have to open the car with the key in the door, which sets the alarm off until I insert the key in the ignition, and the whole process starts again.

Can anyone tell me whether it would be the key which needs replacing or anything else that it could possibly be? Can't find anyone else thats had the same problem on here.

    Thanks.

Start by replacing the battery in the key

Try placing a thin piece of card (or folded up post-it note) on top the battery before putting the cover on. Not unknown for the battery contacts on the PCB to become loose. The thin card helps make a better connection.

It's not immobiliser related as that doesn't use the battery in the keyfob, and the alarm wouldn't silence when you put the key in the ignition.

I've already checked and replaced the battery, its fine. The fact is that I can sit in the car, lock and unlock the car with the fob, then after a couple of times it stops doing anything and I have to place it in the ignition again, turn to position 1, and press the unlock button on the fob. Then it will work for another few times.

Cheers bigdave, I will try the card trick and see if it works.

Hi m8. I had a "similar" issue with one of my keys. All it needed was "re marrying" to my car with one of the gadgets that can do it, tech2 , vauxcom, and others. If you get the chance, try that option too
