Electric motor running sound when accelerating

When i push the accelerator pedal down there seems to be a sound of an electric running starting a second later and finishing.a second.later after pedal is released.Any ideas?

Engine is 2.2 Direct.Maybe more of a whining sound under bonnet that starts and stops as pedel is pushed.

Could be a pulley bearing. Try removing the Aux belt - start the car (from cool / cold and only for a few mins) and see if the noise is gone (obviously you will get some other dash lights on for doing this). If it does then waddle each pulley to see if there is any play. If so then replace it. If not it could be a pulley on the timing belt. Failing that it may be a boost leak or intake leak. Usually though this would be more of a wooshing or whistling noise.

I would start with the Aux Belt Pulleys.
