Default Drivers Side Door Lock does not open

Hi I have a Vectra 53 SXI. I have bought a second hand vectra C for the second time. The problem I notice it that the driver and passengers side doors do not open by the lock. Only if I press the button it opens via the Key fob,

I am worried I wont be able to open if battery goes flat like it did the other day.

    any advicce would appreciate.

    thanks
    Akeem

Has your key EVER unlocked the car using the key rather than the fob ? Do you have a 2nd key and does that work if you have ?
Maybe the car has had a replacement ignition barrel at some time and there are different keys needed for the door ?
I think if this was me, I would have to get a locksmith / really a specialist autolocksmith, to investigate and identify the real problem.

The car I bought recently, I only have one key fob. They Key only seems to open the Boot when i insert or press the button but does not even allow me to turn on the passenger and drivers side.?

Yesterday strangely enough my battery went flat after i accidently unlipped the CD player controls on the left side of the sterring wheel. when I was at the petrol garage doing some cleaning. Then all of a sudden the clip came loose on the steering wheel and away from the pcb all the buttons fell apart then all the light on my car started flashing and hearing clicking noise. This lead my battery to go flat. breakdown man came out and jumped started my car and its ok. but he recommended I get a new batter as current is original from 2003.

When all of this happened I realised I could not leave the car locked and go home so I had to stay there as I could not lock the door.

If the key works in the ignition and the boot then key does it not mannually would on both doors.

Anyone know how easy it is to replace the left side CD Radio controls on the steering wheen and know what type of screw driver i need to remove existing?

    Thanks
    Akeem

If the key opens the boot and starts the car then it seems unlikely that the door locks would have been changed.

I can only suggest spraying some WD40 or similar in the lock, waiting an hour or two, and then trying to "wiggle" the key gently for a few minutes, then a rest, then repeat, and keep repeating GENTLY for around an hour.

If that works then good news, but if not, I go back to my earlier suggestion of antolocksmith assistance.

Sorry but have no experience of replacing the steering wheel radio controls m8, but I'm sure there's likely to be something on the site if you search for it

Good luck with the door lock / key

No probs Akeem, hope you get lucky and that WD40 solves the problem, but if not, I really do feel that you need to take some action because as your first post suggested, if and when you find that you have a flat car battery, it is going to cost you BIG TIME !

You really need to make sure you have got a car pass with the key code on it. If you have then if it was me I would order up a non immobiliser key cut to your code just so you can open the door (if it don't work, then you have proved that it is the door lock thats the problem) the key wont start the car, but it should open the door lock and won't cost you much, somewhere around £10-£15.

If that key also fits the ignition and turns, but doesn't deactivate the immobiliser, then you know that a new full Vx key should also work - BONUS

It's a case of trying to identify if the problem is being caused by a damaged door lock, or a key that is too well worn to fit properly.

Unfortunately, because it is a security issue and you can't just go changing bits from other motors. You are unlikely to get to the bottom of it without spending some money, the secret is trying to work out how to do it by spending the least

I hope I haven't missed anything glaringly obvious, but that's as I see it from here.

    Cheers again

    Hi Woody,

I tried the WD40 it didnt work . But thanks for the advice

Today I also realised today I dont have a lock on the passenger side its only the Driver side and boot that have locks into the car.

Only the Engine Starts and Boot opens with the key door only open by pressing the Fob button and as my Vectra is a saloon the seats and parcel shelf dont go down so the only way in may be via the Sky hole (thats located in the middle of the rear seats) Obviously it would be a coat hanger job as the sky hole is too small and may not even work as it will be too fiddly task and not a good solution)

So ,I have one key that starts the car and opens the boot but not the driver side door ? Do you know if i can I get a key cut that will just open the door without setting the standard alarm off then I can use existing key to start car ? Would this still cost around £10-15 and where would I get this done?

    Thanks for your help.

By the way Wood in your thread, Is having non immobiliser key cut to the Code mean it will open the door and not set the alarm off and how does it get coded is it the key itself? sorry dont know much about keys and loccks on cars.

    Cheers
