Default 1191 code, first fault in 6 months.

went to fire works display yesterday, quite nice until it was time to leave.

45 minutes it took to do quater of a mile, which my car did not like like, as the spanner light came on.

and eventually the car cut out, i managed to get it of the road.

about 1 minute later the car started back up, engine light still on but the car drove perfectly - this was at the same time i was out of traffic and could finaly progress with my journey.

1st thoughts was hpfp, got home stuck it on the laptop, got the 1191 code, however it is not the hpfp as the reading was over 5000 (cant remember the name of the reading)

did some research and i found someone talking about when the engine bay gets to hot it can cause problem with the fuel preassure regualtor, he replicated this issue over 10 times, using cold water to cool the regulator down fixing his fault.

as i say once i was out of the heavy trafic (45 minutes to do quater of a mile) and back to driving normaly the car was fine.

i took it out again late last night and the car was fine, light has gone and stayed off, driving perfectly normal now.
any of you 2.2 direct owners ever had this problem?

i have had this car 6 months and it drives perfectly and has never been a problem, i have been stuck in traffic before but never aslong as last night and this didnt happen then.

glad its not the hpfp (continental) not sure if i have the modded regulator though.

temp was about 96 (when in the traffic), not sure if i hear the fans kick in, i was taking the reading from the coolant screen to get a accurate reading, you were there last night you seen what it was like mate, i will never be going back there again in any car, as that traffic was just unbelivable.

i will check the fans, i did the quater of mile just by letting the clutch in and out as no reves were needed as it was bumper to bumper.

when i needed slight revs it was fine, but wehn i first got to 3000 revs the car just died mate, as if it had had run out of petrol.

any idear what temp the fans should be kicking in?

should kick in at 92 degrees..

But do sound like the Fuel pressure regulator or sensor.

When you say coolant screen, you mean the head unit in test mode? If so, the fan will kick in at 98 on there, then it will drop rapidly to about 93.The actual temp gauge will should about 91.

I'll try and dig out my old thread re this.......

yes tony the test mode, it never went higher then 96, i did think it was gettinga little high so wacked the blowers on to full, which dropped it to 93(again this was all in the heavy traffic) - cheers tony

kenp what sensor you refering too mate?

im going back out soon so will see what happens, and i have no issue with buying a updated regulator, but ill keep this as a spare, as from what i have read, it could be that the regualtor did not like the heat of the engine bay.

The fan will kick in at 98, and remain on until it drops to 93. IF there's a fault stopping it from cooling (eg low coolant), the air con fan will start up too when it gets over 100 to assist with cooling.

Not sure if the operation of the fans can be checked with that though.

Unsure as to why yours died though. Must be temp related though?

i think it died due to the fuel regulator, i belive excess heat can stop the plunger from dooing what it does, maybe this can stop fuel getting to the engine?

i will take the car for a run to get it to temp, then get it off the road with the engine running to get the temp even higher and check to see if the fans do work.

its deffo connected to the quater of a mile in 45 minutes though, i have ruled the hpfp out, that just leaves the regulator as the cause or possibly the sensor kenp is refering too - thought it was going to be a aa job last night tony, but no she came back to life and once back to normaly driving she behaved as she normaly does.
