Default 3 month warranty but only if I take it back to the dealer I bought from.

Bought my 1.9cdti 120 on the 26th from a dealership in Somerset. Was sold with 3 mths warranty underwritten by Warranties 2000, but dealer has said that any warranty work has to go back to the dealership? is this right or legal?

I have contacted Warranties 2000 but as of yet not heard back, reason I ask is that within 24hrs of having the car the I found out the thermostat was in fact defective. The dealer had already changed the CTS and it showed heat despite it being erratic on the journey home. Next morning wouldnt start as temp guage was reading 75 degrees contacted dealer who said it needs to come back in, I told dealer that I wasnt prepared to travel 144 miles back to them with a defective temp gauge incase I did suffer any other issues. Dealer agreed and said he'd price up the job in their workshop and send me a cheque to that amount to have it done locally.

Dealer has given me the run around all week, ignoring e-mails and not returning calls. Finally managed to track him down on the 4th and immediately he said " you'd like the price for the thermostat" he then informs its £10 for a new one, obviously I pointed out no way as the cheapest I've found is £45 +vat. Anyway he agreed to speak with the workshop again and get the correct price and ring me back this morning. 10 o'clock comes and as expected no call but an e-mail telling me they'll pay £50 towards the repair!! I have pointed out that wont cover the cost of the part or an hours labour but nothing.

I am at a loss of what to do next, could complain to Black Horse as they financed the car or Barclaycard as paid the deposit on the card, Or suck it up and pay out the rest of the money to get it done.

I suppose in the end even if warranties 2000 said yes it would then be declined as a wear and tear issue!.

Personally I would ring Warranties 2000, and tell them the car has a fault and you want it fixing. Have you any documentation for the warranty?

I have a flash warranty book, but cannot find in it the validation certificate. I have contacted them but as of yet not heard back, was hoping the dealer would stick to his word and pay out and all be done and dusted. So much for the PDI it had before I picked it up, they apologised for missing the temp gauge problem on the 26th but didn't apologise for the wheel balancing I had to get sorted on the new tyres they'd fitted. Apart from these things I'm over the moon with the car.

Reason I ask, is that I heard of a dealer once doing this but not actually giving the warranty. His documentation was fake

Try getting in touch with Warranties 2000 to double check

Strangely enough that thought has crossed my mind.
