Default Blower not working on position 1....resistor?.. where to buy from?

The blower on my facelift vectra c 56 plate has been dodgy for about a year now. Has been playing up and sometimes not working on 2 and then 3 and so on. Now I've got nothing on position 1 at all. 2,3 and 4 work fine. From researching on here it seems it is the resistor.

I've read the how 2 and it seems pretty straight forward to replace. I'm not going to try and repair my old one and would rather just replace it.

I've seen loads on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heater-Mot...ad9bad4&_uhb=1

I think the VX part number is 9180020 but has anyone used these cheaper ones? What are they like and should I look elsewhere?

Reach through pollen filter housing and give fan a spin. My motor had been repeatedly filling with water and the increased load to spin it had caused mine to fail. I'm glad I read more threads on here about removing scuttle tray bung and removing and lubing motor.

OK so I've just checked the fan and pollen filter.photo.JPG

The little nut on the top was corroded so it seems that water has got in at some point. It does spin by hand and there is some light resistance but it's hard to know if this is normal. should there be any resistance?

I've just stumbled on a thread that involved dropping a little oil onto the centre of the fan whilst reaching in from the pollen filter housing. Might try this tomorrow

When I spun mine it was quite stiff. After WD40 and oiling it ran on a little after releasing, there will be some resistance due to the brushes on the motor.

It's about an hours work to remove the fan and reinstall, awkward though I reckon only a two spanner job on the Haynes difficulty scale.

Going to try oiling from the top first and see if it makes a difference and going to order the resistor.

My advice to you all is DO NOT BUY A CHEAP RESISTOR off ebay. Mine arrived damaged and my mate had to re-solder the joint. I had to cut some of the plastic away as the cut outs were on the wrong side. Once fitted the fan was even spinning when it was set to 0. Ehhhhhhh?? And then....strong smell of burning......resolution......part in bin......trip to dealers.....£34 VX part. Works a treat. Money refunded from ebay seller. Job done
