Key fob and starting problem

car is 2003 2.2dti signum ive had her 2 weeks, it started the other day not opening or closing doors via key fob so i replaced battery read up on here saying to insert key turn to first notch then press door open nothing happened after about 20 mins it just started working i thought it was what id done. then the next day the key fob opened the doors but the car wouldnt start. turned ignition just one click coming from what sounded like glove box side, all lights came on when turning ignition no warning light so tried charging battery still nothing so i went and bought a new car battery still wouldnt start then after about 20 mins it started, then this morning key fob not working but car starts. just one thing when i open the drivers door with key when fob not working the alarm goes off till i put key in ignition and start. so im just wondering what to do next any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like an immobiliser fault. Are uu getting any warning lights appear or any codes?

Hi there. I'm assuming you only have one key ? If so, it's quite difficult to isolate the problem. It may be a key "marriage" to the Vx that's causing the problems, a quick "refresh" of the key with a programming unit would test out that theory, is anyone local to you with a Tech2 or similar you can get the beers in for ?

. Apart from that, then it could be a problem with the electronics in the key, or a module in the car. See if you can get the key checked over first by someone with a programmer. (That is assuming of course that you only have one key).

yes only one key. and no there isnt any warning lights im going to get a new key cut then see how i go from there

Nice of Paul to offer his skills and tech2, but it's a shame that you couldn't work something out. A new key can be a high cost and possibly unnecessary purchase. For instance, if it isn't the key then the money could have been put towards the real cause, and if it is the key, your original might just have needed a "low cost" re-marriage.
In any event, good luck with getting it sorted
