This is so true, i wish i hadn't bothered to try and clean the EGR on my 2.2 dti. I had a holiday today and i thought, i know i'll clean the egr up. Now to say that little sod was in tight is an understatement. Loads of wd40 and loads of little gentle taps around the housing it just wasn't shifting, hours i spent on it and eventually came to the conclusion it wasn't shifting, but me being me i thought NO it's not getting the better of me, an hour or two later it started to move. Excellent i thought until i noticed i had somehow cracked the little brass pipe comming out the top of the egr. So iv'e spent the rest of today soldering it back up. I checked Ebay to find out how much for a replacement. Great i thought when i seen the CDTI's comming in at around £60-80 but no no the Efin DTi is around £300.
Really scunered now, 1 step forward 10 back. I'm not sure how much longer my poor old dti will be with us.

if all else fails then bypass the water pipes to the EGR , at least it will get you away .

Good point. Iv'e heard about doing away with the egr alltogether before but iv'e not researched this option yet. I don't know if thats even possible on the dti, i could easy make a blanking plate and connect the water pipes but what would you do with the electrical side of things, i presume it would throw up a fault ie the spanner light. would she run better without the egr?

leave the egr in place , plugged in & working but connect the water pipes to each other instead of to the valve .
