Default Modifying exhaust length on V6 banks

I've been wondering for a long time whether anyone has gone about equaling up the exhaust lengths coming out of the 3.2 V6's front and rear banks before they merge into one as they are quite different in length. The same (or similar Y32SE) engines in the Omega B and Cadillac CTS sound completely different in videos I have seen in comparison to Vectra's or Signum's and I personally like the cleaner sound produced by the rear wheel drives with equal exhaust lengths per bank.

Has anyone tried this, or does anyone have opinions on the potential outcome?

Are you sure the Omega has the same level of muffling/silencers as the Vec? That could explain the noise difference.

It's not the noise level that I feel is different, its the overall exhaust note.

Both have the GM 54 degree engine but the way the V6 sits in the Vectra, cylinders 2-4-6 have a shorter exhaust path to 1-3-5 hence the different sound to my way of thinking.

Equal length manifolds will make a big difference due to the length of distance the gasses have to travel. The omega V6 wasn't transverse mounted, which meant the manifolds would have been the same length.

The Alfa lot on AO forums have seen excellent results in power and noise by creating equal length custom exhaust manifolds for the transverse 3l and 3.2 V6, the idea being both banks have the same distance of travel til it reaches the exhaust centre pipe.

Worth doing if you have the money

I miss the sound of the Alfa V6 noise, especially with a Unicorse exhaust on it

    Hows this for noise... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e3swNkupSY

    That is nice

I don't think the Vectra will be able to reproduce such a sound but I do have high hopes for the outcome anyway.

Yep there is a science behind it. The idea being as one runner is in use it causes a lower pressure in the next runner to be used. If two runners empty into the main pipe it makes it harder for the engine to breath.
