    Eek Possible Alternator Gone? GREMLINS!

    Hi Guys,

My car is a Vectra 2.0 DTI 52 Plate Elite

Driving to work this morning, and weird things started to happen all over the place in my car...

First of all, the Battery light and the yellow car with spanner over it came on in the little info display in the dash, i thought "feeeeeck" it must be the CIM again...

Then after about 10 mins, the ABS light and traction control light came on too,

then after another few mins, the power steering stopped working, the rear window heater, the radio kept turning off, and the climate control, along with the temperature in the MID.

When I got to my colleagues house to pick him up, I switched the engine off, and then went to switch it back on, all I heard was a series of clicks and the engine trying to turn over.

From what I've been reading on here it sounds like the alternator, am I right??

Going to call the AA when I get out of work and get them to check the voltages, what voltages should I be looking for?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Cheers.

Definitely alternator fella and battery dying under load because the alternator's not doing it's job. You may end up having to replace both, but the alternator is a definite (unless the belt's just snapped in which case you may be very lucky).

The battery light and EML coming on sure do point to the alternator. I guess that you've checked the ALT belt is still there or isnt loose?

Thanks for that - but when I put in my car details, there are several alternators.. ranging from RTX to Bosch to Lucas, and from 70amps to 140 amps... which one do I need?
