Default Advice on car wiring... please

I have a 12v cigarette lighter in the front column and one in the rear centre arm rest. The Rear one is 90% of the time in use with my Iphone etc and the front, say 30% is used for the satnav charger...

I'm looking to fit a heated seat kit to the front seats (Not Factory kit) and it needs a 12v live and an earth point.

Now, I'm not sure what sort of draw the wiring for the cigarette loom can take and I'm guessing the front and rear ones follow the same loom. The wiring looks sturdy enough, but worse case with all 4 items on and drawing 12v down the same wire, how is it likely to hold up?

    Thanks in advance!

I think for that I would definitely run a fused 2.5mm live direct from the battery. Theres a grommet behind the glove box to allow you access through the bulkhead. Id just run an earth to the battery at the same time.

I agree with the above, the cigarette lighter will not provide sufficient current. Run an independant wire fomr the battery with a suitable fuse. Use a relay to make it live only when the ignition is on, otherwise you could flatten the battery.

Mate the draw on heated seat elements will be too much.

run a fused wire in yourself. And plenty of earth points around dash area.

Holy smokes batman that's a loom heading for meltdown. The voltage isn't your issue bud it's current draw and your original plan is a recipe for a car fire that's a lot of current in a thin wire equals plenty of heat. Best advice as above or fit after market pads and use the existing Vectra wiring if you have it.

Okay... so I get the idea that the general consensus is not to use the Cigarette lighter live LOL. Thanks for the replies so far!

So, next question, this is the kit I have... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WAECO-HEAT...item564d94c4fa

It comes with a relay and fuse already in the wiring loom, but I need to find a way of making the wiring live only when the ignition is on. Any ideas?

Looks like a lot of work to fit the seat pads.
The current draw is 8 amps max. It does need a perminent live feed from the battery and also needs a live with ignition that can be taken from the cig lighter, but the wiring and relay are provided.
