Bonnet wont open on 1.9 CDTI facelift

Hi Guys,

Have a problem with my bonnet not opening, the car is a 55 vectra 1.9 cdti facelift model.

I have read the various threads but still not able to get it open. Tried pulling on the metal round bit on the release cable with pliers whilst someone pushes and pulls on the bonnet but no luck. The front grill has no holes to try and poke anything through to pull on the latch.

Thought of taking the bumper off but dont think it will without opening the bonnet. Not sure if the only way is to have a go from under the car by removing the under tray or break the front grill.

Anyone have any ideas please? Thanks

can you feel the bonnet catch being operated through the cable or does it feel like it may have snapped or come off. or does it feel like the cable is stretching without the nice click that signals the bonnet has released?

have tried pushing/pulling on the bonnet whilst the cable is pulled from inside the car. When pulling on the cable is wont budge at all but when shaking the cable I can hear the cable move around at the bonnet end so not sure if this means it has snapped.

does it feel loose then? or tight when pulled with no pop and loose' ish when pushed. If it the latter I would put some serious weight on the front of the bonnet over the catch. Like get someone heavy to sit on it while you pull the latch.

the cable is tight when pulled and nothing happens, we tried to push the bonnet down with full force whilst pulling on the cable but had no luck.

Thought u could unlock from lifting car up and unlock manually from under car? Might apply to vectra,

this happened on my old astra twice, first time I was able to disconnect the cable from the pull lever in the drivers foot well and pulled on it with a pair of pliers. Its at this point I should of replaced the cable, second time I had to smash the grill out and release the latch with my hand, cost me a cable and grill then!

the plan tomorrow will be to get under the car, remove the under tray and have a go from here. Need to get this sorted cos MOT expires on Friday.

Before you start taking things off try this it worked for me took about 10 mins of fiddling and swearing but it does work
