Default Help explaining fault codes P0650 & P0400.

I have read the codes for a neighbour with a 2003 2.0 DTI. I have repaird a split in the vacuum pipe that goes to the turbo. The car was runing with no power. The car is running ok now however an intermitant car spanner light keeps popping up.

They have had a garage clean the EGR for them. I think it could still be sticking..

    codes read:
P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction .
P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control CircuitMalfunction.

They are a nice elderly couple who I would like to help out.
They have had the car back and forth to the garage with no joy and big cost.
I hate it when garages take a lend of folk......

Connection to the EGR, is it secure? Might be worth taking out the EGR and cleaning it. While it's out, take off the inlet manifold top and clean out any soot there too, cos it's not just the EGR that gets clogged there

    That might sort it

Is there any news on this? I had code P0400 today. I turned out the wiring plug had come off the EGR. Probably I hadn't quite put it back on properly earlier in the day when I was trying to find out what was causing the P0105 and P1105 codes.

The cable on the EGR valve wiring connector is stretched tight between the loom and the plug and I was wondering if this was causing 1 or more pins on the plug to lose connection with the EGR valve and it was this causing the other 2 codes (which have popped up several times over the last week and are related to air/boost pressure).

I have cut back the webbing where the EGR cable splits off from a larger cable so there's now a bit of slack and I'll see how it goes. I've got a 3 hour motorway journey tomorrow, so fingers crossed...
