    Default thermostat fail

hi guys i think my thermostat has failed in car as the temp just never reaches 75 an when on a long run it wont show on gauge at all but question i want to ask is if its failed is there bad fuel consumption an loss of power? it seems sometimes when i start car it will have a tank range say 50 miles. i will do 2 mile journey but then me tank range has dropped to like 40. does this happen with all the vectras or could it be the thermostat needs replacing

yes this happened to me you need a new thermostat and yes you will be using more fuel

common fault on the vectra c

yours is diesel and the temperture gauge should read 86-90 degress and stay there

there are plenty of threads on this site regarding thermostat failure

just type thermostat into the search part

replaced my thermostat at 53000 miles

i have the 1.8 it takes around 3 miles to get to 86-90

say with the outside temperature at 11 degress

sometimes it goes to 92 and when the fan cuts in it goes back to 86-90

if it is reading between 70-75 after 20 minutes its broke

the classic sign of a faulty temperature gauge is

it sits at 0 for ages, moves up to 80 then drops back to 0 again

Why do the thermostats for the 1.8VVt's come with the housing and 2 sensors, you only need the thermostat and a gasket??

I might see if I can take the thermostat out of the housing and get it matched? Its probably the same as a standard 1.8/???

There's a sticky somewhere about a thermostat that superceeds the original. I bought it off the bay and had it fitted and now works a dream
