Starter motor. Fitted yesterday. Starts a treat. After new thermostat glow plugs battery etc. It was the starter motor. If you have the old poor starting problems go for motor first.

Did your starter motor seem to work ok before replacement? Mine turns the car over and it seems like the car is going to catch and fire up but it wont if you let go of the key at that point I need to keep the starter turning after I would normally have stopped cranking the engine.
Cheers Mike
Mine has a similar problem, it's strange it seems to judder like it will not catch but normaly does start, have changed glow plugs, Alternator and battery, starter motor seems lively enough so I ruled it out?
Ronnie
Its a common problem from cold. If the starter motor isn't cranking fast enough it will fail or start poorly. It can sound like everything is cranking normally but its just not quite enough. However there are always a lot of much cheaper and more likely thing to rule out before spending money on a new starter.
