Default Is it the temp sensor or thermostat 1.9cdti

    Hi all,

Picked up my 55plate 1.9cdti 120 on Friday, whilst on the test drive noticed the temp gauge not working. Dealer changed temp sensor and hey presto gauge working all be it slightly erratically.

Saturday morning put key in and switched on ignition and noticed the temp gauge move up to 60 degrees or so despite the engine being stone cold, tried starting car and it wasn't having non of it (outside temp 2degrees) eventually it fired up and ran fine. Temp gauge hardly moved.

Bought another sensor popped it in and again the gauge didn't move at all on the journey home, but had heat in the car. So popped the sensor that was working back in and the gauge moved again all be it no higher than 85 degrees.

So I'm slightly confused as to why two sensors didn't work one does all be it erratically ie: showing temp on cold engine. Could it the thermostat causing the issues??

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Id suggest put back the new sensor that you bought then change thermostat

its very common on the vectra c that the thermostat breaks

(the gauge stays around 86 degress and stays there this is with a new thermostat fitted)

unless you put heater 4 setting on on it drops

if it goes to 70-75 with the heater( off )its broke
