    Default Strange but NOT complaining

OK guys, thought you may like to hear of a situation that has got me all weirded out.

    Car 2007 (Oct) 1.9 CDTi
timing belt just changed, serviced with 10,000 mile oil changes car running beautifully as it has done since I bought it two years ago. Car now done 75,500 miles

OK, Economy, it had settled out at 49.7 mpg up until I changed the timing belt, however, since then,,,,,,

The economy on the OBC has risen steadily to 55.4mpg and today on filling up I did the brim full to brim full thing, it is working out at a touch over 58mpg. I knew the obc was reading low but had thought it to be about 1.3mpg less than was actually being done. this is a very pleasant surprise indeed.

I commute 50 miles each way per day so 100 miles roughly 20 are on B road twisties 80 are on the M77 and M8 at rush hour and not exactly the easiest way to get good economy all hard braking accelerating etc nose to tail stuff and so on.

I am stunned and amazed and when I brimmed her today the OBC was telling me I have a range of 779 miles. I do NOT hang about I am no race driver either but staggered at how well the wee thing is doing.

Wow. yes dont complain. Have you changed fuel companies?, pumped tyres up higher? Perhaps you are driving lighter footed but dont relise.

Either way your doing some thing right.

might even go up more if the tyre pressures are checked and its given a service, no doubt the oil n filter was done when the timing belt was done?

I run the tyres at 36psi all round, and do oil changes every 10,000 with fully synthetic 5W40 but she seems to prefer 0w40 in the cold weather as you can hear the turbo spooling up when she is first run until the oil thins / circulates fully after the first minute or two, so I keep revs and boost very low till after then, then keep things calm until the needle starts to lift on the temp gauge

I am needing to do an air filter swap soon too however.
