Default Has anyones car failed the mot for HID's yet?

Just stuck my car through the mot and it failed on a couple of bits. The guy at the garage said to me lucky you don't have HID's because your car would have failed luckily Vx fitted Xenons in the vectra.

I walked out smiling to myself knowing its an HID kit that is well hidden under the airbox. Seems like even the testers have no idea what to look for these days!

More than likely what fooled him was that it gave the correct beam pattern during the headlight test, as turning on HID's give that very distinctive give away flash.

Yea, thats why he was fooled. The MOT tester has most likely only been used to seeing the ones fitted to reflector lens's. I think that the mot tester thinks hids are aftermarket and xenons are oem, we all know that Hids and Xenons are the same thing.

    Hehe
Been trying to find an answer to this for a while. Appears to depend a lot on the mot tester from what I can gather. My mot is due next week & I'm leaving my hids in so I'll soon find out for myself

Sorry bud... miss took what you were saying I agree, I really don't think the majority of testers check unless of silly colours and dodgy alignment.

Most posts ive seen on here where people have asked their tester about this have said that as long as it gives the correct pattern on the beam tester and, as you say aren't bright blue, they are happy to pass them.

Also, they can't fail aftermarket for not having auto height adjust and wipers fitted as some other makes of car don't have them but come with factory fitted HIDs.
They can only fail if you have auto height adjust and wipers fitted and they don't work.

Here's an extract from an e-mail I recieved from the garage I use:

    Good morning,

I have checked with our workshop foreman with regards to HID headlights and he says there's no problem with them as far as MOT is concerned.

Price for replacing the cambelt kit which includes tensioner is £205 including VAT.

    Thanks

So I'm seriously looking at them now.

Mine passed a couple of weeks ago with 6000k 50w HIDS in the headlights and strobing (when off) LED's in the halos in my angel eyes. The MOT tester didn't give any of it a second glance all he was worried about was the beam alignment and pattern which were correct. Even had a chat with him about HIDS in general and how much better they were
