Question ECC info gone from bottom of CID

I have a strange one going on... the ECC info on the bottom of my CID keeps coming and going. I can still operate the ECC but not as before, I do not get any of the info on screen from fans sppeds to temp zone changes etc.

This started on the weekend. It comes back occasionally but then goes again. This morning I had a call from the site security saying my car alarm was going off. I decided to disconnect the battery and do a full reset. So with the battery disconnected i also checked every fuse just in case and all were ok. I reconnected the battery and the ECC info came back for a while during my lunchtime visit to my local vx parts department. However when i left the dealers to drive back to my office it was gone again.

I have reseated the connections on the back of the ECC and it made no difference. I can't pull the CD70 as i do not have a set of removal tools with me, ( i do have some at home).

Has anybody seen this happen before? I will connect up my laptop tonight and check for codes and try reseating the connectons in my CD70 and CID.

its a loose connection between the ECC and the Screen (not Radio), its probaly the 2 Can-bus wires thats the problem.

    Question battery test

driving home i noticed that it was switching tabs itself and would end up on BC, it could not hold a bluetooth connection either. I had no ECC info all the way home. I have plugged in my laptop and had a shed loads of error codes all canbus or electrical related. Main ones being no comms with the mid speed canbus items like the DIS, EHU and ECC.. another said low system voltage.

I dug out my volt meter and noted the figures then checked my wife's vec to see what hers were then tried her battery in my car.. results are as follows:

    My 2.0T Signum

    My battery:- 300mah
    engine off: 12.11v
    engine on and lights: 13.74v

    Wifes battery:- 600mah
    engine off: 12:10v
    engine on and lights: 13.62v

    Wife's 1.8 Vec

    Wifes battery:- 600mah
    engine off: 12:57v
    engine on and lights: 14.07v

So what do you make of that, is the alternator fubar?

Looks like the alternator may be starting to fail, from those readings, as lower readings from your car with either battery in

do those battery figures look like i have a alternator that's no longer cutting it then? If it is on its way out I will take off and get it refurbed as mine has the uprated bosch pulley on it.
