Default EGR question...not the normal one i must add

My EGR valve has prevously been drilled out for cleaning and greasing in the past before i brought it and i have done it also about 4 months ago. After i cleaned a greased it the pin moved in and out with very very little pressure which i always thought was a good thing.

    BUT

After having a brandnew one in my hands and seperating it, the pin requires alot more pressure to push in and also springs out with more force.Im guessing that the solanoid part is airtight which causes the pin to return with more pressure so it can open/close the plunger(in the other half of the valve) better.

Surley if the pin has harldey and force when it pops out it must have some effect of the working of the valve i.e. not opening up enough(or closing how ever it works lol) i did plug the hole with a screw but over time it just got forced out.

My question is,is it just a temp fix or a perminant one?

    Hi,

What type is your engine ?

Yes, the solenoid cavity is probably fairly airtight when the valve is new, but should wear on time, so dirt may also enter.

So considrering the part is subject to wear, yes, all fixes are somewhat temporary.

Now mine is 9 1/2 years old, it's very dirty because caked VNT turbo vanes recently caused the exhaust to emit a lot of soot, but still working.

The problems I had with limp mode last week actually came from a dirty MAP sensor, not from the EGR.

That's why I asked for more information about your engine, as it's hard answer without knowing, because it's impossible to generalize there.

    OK, Z19DTH...

What are your symptoms ? Are there any alerts displaying on the screen or under the speedometer ?

Does your car smoke more than before ? Does it go into limp mode ?

If I read correctly, disabling the EGR on this engine displays an error but does not trigger limp mode (unlike mine), so what does make you sure your problem comes from the EGR ?
