I think vx say 60,000 for timing belt or 5years?. As for the water pump i would do it all together, then its piece of mind.

4 year old, 53k, personally I think your still on the right side. Test the antifreeze, check its still good for -28c. I think a lot of water pump failure may be down to poor quality antifreeze. Antifreeze not only provides frost and corrosion protection but lubrication for the water pump. If in doubt change the antifreeze in the short term. My local VX dealer has it on offer at £11.60 for 5lt at the moment.

No its the belt thats 10 years or 100k, but its never the belt that fails, its nearly always the water pump that seizes and shreds the belt. VX Antifreeze is as good as any other imo, and as cheap, if not cheaper, than motor factors.

ive got a few threads on this

i would change the water pump and cambelt now

its normally the waterpump seizes taking the belt with it

    causing damage to the rockers

thanks guys that been realy good feedback, well thats good to know that those rockers brake lol instead of the valves gettin done. although i am a bit concerned with this water pump seizing think al just get it done for the sake of 50 quid, would u say 350 is a fair price? used the garage before they only use genuine parts, used them for the works van seem to do a good job would rather pay more for a decent job. its a family run garage.
    cheers guys

350 is a bit too much imo. The bits including the water pump are only about £160 so that's a hell of a fitting charge

Iirc the last belt and water pump kit I bought was £140 trade from vx and that was about 2 months ago. Fitting takes about 2 hours or so
