Tomorrow i'm going to attempt to wire in the side lights to an alternative 12v feed so they come on when the car is unlocked but then stay on all the time. Any suggestions on a good place to take the supply from? preferably under the bonnet

Are you putting a relay in, as a permanent 12v won't come on with fob.... You want them to fire on with fob, then stay on with ignition live so no need to use switch?

You need to put a 5 pin relay in between the 12v feed, take a feed from the 12v and one from the dash illumination so one fires when normally closed, other when the relays open...

Not sure what you mean Lee. I thought about using a relay and triggering from the dash illumination circuit but i tought there must be somewhere to take a straight 12v from

There MUST be a 12v live that comes on with the fob and stays on until the car is locked again. The GID/Cid for example comes on when you unlock and is always on until you get out and lock....?

Maybe take it from the GID then, never knew that...

If I where to change mine so I didn't use the switch i'd just use a 5 pin relay and use an ignition live and 12v straight from battery.

Yeah, that's my backup plan. Do you know of an ignition live under the hood?

Not off top of my head but one of the relays will fire up, just nick it off there...

But like you said, if the GID is always on till locked, I might even swap my feed now you've mentioned that...

The only reason i wouldn't do it would be current draw. I'm planning on changing my LED angel eyes for CCFL rings and i'm a bit unsure of what they draw and what the capacity of the existing cable is.

But you can use the GID feed to fire the relay only and then a fused 12v from the battery to get the power you like...
