if you need GPS (let's say you've swapped in a CD70 Navi) then you may as well stick with the FM antenna you have and just buy a Fakra GPA antenna and mount that - a popular and successful place is under the front centre dash vent (clear view of the sky as it's looking straight up through the screen).

no its not a cd70 its the standard ncdc2013, i think my aerial is on its way out, getting bad reception andalso the satnav wil turn red going under a motorway bridge thoug i would change teaerial and base first before delving deeper, just wondering whether there was a cheaper way than the stealer route? unless anybody can suggest other things to try? radio reception is worse when rear screen demister is on? its an 03 plate 3.2 elite with ncdc 2013 and colour screen
    TIA

The old symptom of reception worse when rear screen on does seem to indicate aerial base water ingress/corrosion, so you might be looking at replacing that anyway. First things first though... get it stripped off and any corrosion wire brushed away, then if it works fine, just think about resealing the base to the roof - careful use of silicone may be appropriate there... and a hell of a lot cheaper than buying new.

thanks for the replies but have already had the aerial and base off of the car and no water ingress at all, also had a look at connections in aerial base , blue connector and also at the joint drivers kick panel (didnt know what i was looking for) but everything seems fine, what i want to do is swap aerial and base cheaply so i can see whether that is the route to take (if you see what i mean)
    TIA
