    Default New vx heater resistor..worked for 3 weeks...now intermittent...?causes

Fitted genuine VX heater resistor 3 weeks ago. Fan worked perfectly since then but 3 days ago stopped working on speeds 1,2 & 3 again. Took everything apart. Couldn't see anything obvious. Booked into dealers in accordance with VX's parts warranty claims. The next day it started working again so cancelled the service appointment. Now it's on......then off.....then on etc. No pattern. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Dealer said it's not very often they get faulty resistors. Anyone know of any causes for this? This week I was going to follow the how 2 and drill a hole in the fan housing and grease lower bearings. i think water may have ingressed at some point as the top nut next to pollen filter is a bit corroded.

    Poor connection probably

how ever of you plan on claiming on vx part warranty don't drill hole as they may use that to blame the fault

It did cross my mind that although the car is well out of it's VX warranty (56 plate) but they will probably use that as an excuse to wriggle out of paying for the part.
When you say poor connection do you mean between the connector block and the resistor? I wonder if anyone has had any problems with the actual rotary switch on the dash for selecting fan speeds.

    Default

Just done a bit more digging on the net and found that replacing the relay solved it. My relay will only click when turned to position 4....is this normal? Worth replacing for the sake of a few quid?
