Default DMF is this normal or damaged????

Just took delivery of a new Sachs DMF (part number: 2294 000 296) but I think it might be damaged! Have a look at the pics there's bits missing on the inner flywheels outer edge.

The supplier has emailed me back and this is what he says

    "Hi Guv,

Ford and Vauxhall one's often have bits missing from the castings. This one looks worse than normal but never had a problem fitting them. As you say they come out of the factory looking like this as this sort of damage will not occur in transit.

    Hope this helps

Since we only deal with VAGs on a day to day basis, we have never experienced this, however my supplier has been fitting them for about 30 years
    Cheers"

Am I being fobbed off because the guy at the garage who is fitting it said that he's never seen one like this and that he wouldn't fit it.

    Please help!!!

If a mechanic is telling you he won't fit it then there must be something wrong as normally they will just throw anything on but he does not want to fit it then get the blame when it goes wrong again

That what I thought, I'm going to have to get back to the supplyer and get them to send me out a new one. The mechanic is saying that there could be an imballance and this could cause unwanted vibrations.

    I pay @ £300.00inc vat trade for those Sachs's DMF's

I never heard of "seconds" in manufacturing of these components, they are usually melted and remade.

Now I have heard of counterfeit parts perhaps that was meant ?

As for fitting, that the mechanic was right, if it has a defect its potentially lethal.

    I'd NEVER accept that!

No expert, but if its turning, does it not to be balanced? Having a chunk missing would put this out?

I got it from Dark side Developments. The chap there has now ordered a new one and I should receive that sometime next week. I still have the inconvenience of having to send the old one back, although he has said that he will sort out the postage fee.

Those missing bits do look quite bad and could affect the balance thus causing premature wear.

I'd be looking for a replacement on that.
