    Default Battery Drain

I have a 2.2 dti sri, something is draining the battery down over night. I checked with a multimeter and the current draw is around 2 amps but moves up and down? Found if i pull fuse FI9 next to the glove box it drops to zero. FI9 fuse is for the central control unit, any ideas what this is and where it is?

Are you sure on that fuse number Alistair - engine fuse box wiring diagram shows F7 for central control unit and F19 for adaptive lighting.

It is fuse 9 in the box next to the glove box, ready somewhere these are FI fuse numbers Fuse Instruments. In the owners manual it is for the central control unit, now found out these are call BCM body control module or A15.

Yes had a look at mine - it's a sealed module. Why not try swapping it with a good one and do a re-test.

A 2amp drain if constant reading sounds more like an open circuit feed. But If as you say your getting the 2amp reading moving up and down this could be the because the system is still shutting down. Vauxhall say to make sure to allow 30 minutes to ensure full shut down after switch off before doing a drain test. Worth doing a few more checks before you have to spend big money. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, did some more investigation today and with the original battery was getting approx 2 amp drain. Disconnected the battery and connected and booster pack, found after locking the car had approx 0.6 drain which then dropped to 10mA after several minutes. I'm hoping the original battery was so shot that after locking the doors there wasn't enough power for the electronics to shut down. Have fitted a new battery now and checked the drain several minutes after dead locking the car, the drain is only 10mA.

Wait and see if it starts in the morning......................

It's also worth taking a voltage reading on the battery at switch off and in the morning before starting. This will you help track the overnight drop and tell you the battery condition on start up. Sounds like you're making progress.

Yep, the battery may actually be dead, but after replacing, you should absolutely check it's charging correctly, as the old one could have died only because it wasn't recharged correctly.

My battery recenty died because the crankshaft pulley was broken and the belt didn't drive the alternator correctly, so changing the battey alone would just have resulted in a waste of money (very same car as yours, except for LHD ).

So check you've got about 14.4 V at the battery terminals when the engine in running.

Thanks for the response, I have checked the alternator and getting 14.4 volts. So far the car has been starting ok the last few days. I have checked the battery voltage and approx 30 mins after turning the car off I get 12.9 volts and in the morning getting 12.7 to 12.8. So hopefully a new battery is all i needed.
