Default Vectra C SXi 1.8 Clutch Replacement

    Hello all

Now the proud owner of a 2002 vectra c sxi 1.8 in excellent condition, all round a nice car but it needs a new clutch, I've heard comments that it is possible to do without additional work of dropping the subframe, could anyone confirm this! and is there a guide available to keep me right, looking around for garage estimates to see what the saving might be, will let you know
    thanks Rich

Any advice gratefully received!, first quote was £560 from a small local garage with good reviews.

As far as I know you still have to drop one side of the subframe to remove the bell housing/gearbox to get at the clutch. Not had to it on our 1.8 yet but did on my 2.0T

I believe that you only have to loosen one side of the subframe. Someone even intimated that you dont have to remove the gearbox as there is enough room to work around it still in the engine bay. VX are £599 for a clutch replacement so £560 seems expensive from an independent. Do a search for Mr Clutch and see if there is a branch near you, they are very reasonable. BTW dont be fobbed of with a mention of a Dual Mass Flywheel, neither 1.8's have them.

    It's a pity you weren't in Belfast,
I can remove and replace and clutch/F17 gearbox in around 5 hours MAX,
Most garages should be able to do this but its getting one to do it cheap for you is a different story,
The subframe does need to be dropped at the gearbox side to allow the box to be removed so that that thrust bearing can be replaced which I would recommend doing when replacing the clutch itself.
If you are thinking of doing it yourself you will need a hand to remove and refit the box as they can be awkward to get out and align when refitting, also get new gear oil as you will loss some, I also replace the gear oil when removing the box.
A 3 piece LUK clutch kit should be around £185 and you should be able to get it done for around £150,
I wouldn't pay anymore than £180 including VAT to get it fitted.
If their is garages in Belfast that can do it Im sure their is some over there too,
Shop around, you will find one.
