    not sure
think you need a sky card to do that
freesat box , could be the way forward , more channels that freeview , and you can get a twin one , watch one channel , record another !

Without a viewing card, the sky box acts as a Freeview box

Yeah. I only found out when I cancelled my Sky when I moved house back in April. Still got Freeview channels and when I called Sky to query this, they confirmed it.

Get a £20 freesat card from Sky, no monthly fee and you get dozens of channels.

You'd have to pay sky £10 a month if you want the privilege of being able to record though

You can either by a "freeview" card for the sat from Sky, its about £20, but doesnt give you the same channels as normal Freeview, e.g. no DAVE!
You cannot record on a Sky+ box unless you pay a monthly subsricption to Sky.
You could buy a Freesat with built in recorder and connect to the existing satellite dish.
