Default Automatic Gearbox - Preserving its life

I have just read a post regarding water getting into the gearbox from a split pipe and this ruined the box

Is there any preventative measure which I can do to stop this happening to my box?

Are the pipes easy to see and what do they do?

    Regards

Thanks for the replies. These pipes, are they visible or are they internal. I suppose if they are visible I could check regularly and replace if necessary??

Nah not one of mine........... Lao's I nicked the pics as an illustration.

I use Jag oil coolers they are thinner and less intrusive, >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-S-T...3383%26ps%3D54
I don't do pics of my work unless its really esoteric, would feel a bit pervy.
