Default Battery charging advice needed please

Went to start the vec this afternoon (after a week) and the battery is about 9 - 10v and not enough to start.. I have connected up my dads old battery charger and will leave the car up against the garage door overnight.

Question is, do I need to disconnect the battery from the car whilst charging? I have taken of the Negative lead as a precaution but now I'm concerned the alarm may go off in the middle of the night.... Is there a battery backup in the alarm?

Or shall I connect the battery back up and leave it charging anyway?

Is it the original battery, prob just time for a change rather then a specific drain...

vauxhall on your trade card for the battery if you need to go down that route.

Charge the battery to full (depending on charger spec it would most likely be ~10 hours).

    Get a proper load test.

If battery is dead get a replacement, the largest you can fit in the box, preferably specified for diesel or heavy duty. Avoid the cheapest unless backed up by 2 or 3 year warranty.

It's the original battery, but it hasn't dropped low enough for the lights not to work. It only really does short runs now, so I don't think it get chance to put back in what a start takes out.
First time it's happened. So far there had been no other signs the battery was even slightly low. Its charging at around 14.4v so all good there.....

So the battery hasn't done me too badly.]

I had similar issues, dipping below cranking power but not enough so everything's dead... Got bored of it failing as it became more regular over a few months so I changed the battery, mine was the original too on an 03.
