    Default Noise from rear

Hi all bought sri cdti 150 and when I'm on the motorway it's making a humming noise from back of car it's got 19" snowflakes on could it be tyre pressure or they are wearing thin on inside or could it be the bearing 56 plate

I had uneven tyre wear which caused a drone from the back.

Tyres were damaged by the upper control arms being worn out.

Grab the top of each rear wheel and yank it outwards. If you hear a clunk, or get any movement, the control arm bush is shot.

I've just had this problem for the 2nd time (as discussed on another thread) when I replaced my original control arms with rubbish "Q-Drive" parts.

What tyres do you have, and how much tread is left on them..?

Short and to the point..........the remedy to all these weird noises is PREMIUM tyres.......I know it's hard to shell out £600+ for four tyres but believe me it is the ONLY way to cure the terrible road noise many of us seem to be hearing !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cannot disagree more.

There are many premium tyres that are very noisy indeed, make is nothing to do with noise. Treadwear ratings, tread design and correct alignment are far more important.

Looking at cheaper tyres, Evergreens are very quiet, Altenzo's are very quiet too, Bridgestone are noisy, Toyo (can't remember the model) ones are also noisy. When looking for tyres, look at the budget you can afford, then look at the different ratings/design to find ones that are quiet.

Tyres now come with a noise rating. They're tested by an independant company which reports its findings to the manufacturer. Apparently Kuhmo come out on top, above the premium manufacturers on many tests. I had 2 new ones fitted on the front and the road noise was greatly reduced. just need to save up for the rears now.

To add, I had a slight drone that turned out to be due to the alignment, too much camber and toe-in.
