Default Intermittent clutch problem 1.8i Club

    Hi,

The clutch on my 2003 1.8i Club (55,000miles) usually operates fairly high up. There is plenty of travel. All operates smoothly. There are no problems such as slipping, juddering etc.

Yesterday, suddenly whilst driving the pedal travel was very limited and the bite point was very close to the floor.

Today the pedal is back to normal.

Any ideas what could be the problem and is it something that could completely fail soon? Also possible garage costs involved would be useful.

    Many Thanks

    Wickers

I had a similar problem with my 2003 2.2DTi. The clutch would operate normally until the car was warmed up, where it would get increasingly more difficult to get it into gear. The pedal travel was near enough zero from the floor to make the car move once in gear.

I put it down to the slave cylinder on its way out and replaced it along with the clutch.

    All is fine now.

    Hi Mogsy007,

Thanks for the reply. My understanding is that the slave cylinder is inside the transmission housing. I suppose that the labour costs involved means that the clutch might as well be changed at the same time? Has anybody got an idea what an independant garage would charge for a clutch replacement on a petrol Vectra (as the diesels usually cost considerably more I think?).

Or could the problem still be something alot simpler/cheaper that could do with being looked at first ??
