    Angry Tyre problem yesterday

I was quite happily driving along the M4 just past J13 towards London at about 80mph with my 6 months pregnant wife and noticed a slight vibration in the wheel, thought nothing of it as it might be the road surface, within about 1/2 a mile I had a job to hang onto it!

Pulled over onto the hard shoulder and went to have a look and the front passenger side tyre was steaming away but looked ok, further round the wheel was a huge bulge in the middle of the tread.

Deceided to change it at roadside for the spacesaver looking completely stupid. We carried on to the next junction and went into Newbury to get it changed.

The guy at Bathwick said it was tyre separation and a fault with the manufacturing process
Any of you guys had any similar experiences with the Goodyear NCT 5's, (215/50/17, W speed rated)

    Cheers.

    Really lucky there mate.....

normally delamination leads to a rapid air loss( blowout).. at speed that could have been really nasty....

When I was inspecting my car for purchase I noticed that all four tyres were from the faulty batch (1605)
I pointed this out, and they had never heard of it, but would look into it
I already had the list and phone number
The dealer phoned me back the following day to say they had replaced the tyres, on a like for like basis, but I would have to pay for the balance and valves to which I replied "no"
After a further discussion they realised this would be about £15 and said they had now completed it...

I am finding the Good Year 215/50 R17 95W (the XL version) is very poor on wear, and very expensive at about £150 each fitted
I am considering going back to Michelin HX MXM on 225/45 R17 95W (XL version) at about £110 each fitted
Both tyres are listed for the Vectra in my handbook, however the 225/45 has a larger footprint so the consumption might be lower, but the handling should be slightly better

This is Worrying you know, how old are the tyres do you know? I had some Goodyears put on the fronts recently - Got a Good Deal on them, they are the NCT 5's an all.

Where is the Batch numbers on the tyres by the way? I think Im gonna take a look tomorrow.

Cheers for all your advice so far.
From looking at the sticky thread at the top of this forum, it looks like the tyre in question are from the recalled period!
I'll be having an interesting conversation with Kwik-Fit! tomorrow.
By the way, the tyres are only 2 months old with less than 4k since new.
