    Default Water water everywhere!

Ok, so the sun has just started to appear. I decide to go and hoover the inside of the car out as its starting to look a little messy. As I remove the front mats I discover that both front footwells are damp
Passenger in the rear left hand corner and drivers side in the rear right hand corner near that rubber built in mat is. We have had a lot of rain lately and some of the puddles are hard to avoid I have also noticed that the car has been steaming up lately very quickly and I think I have just found why. Has anybody else had this? All the door seals seem ok....... Any suggestions as to what could be causing this
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I'd start off by checking the drains in the scuttle where excess water can drain off.. the lip from the scuttle to the base of the pollen filter is only about an inch.. the drains are easily found about a foot down on the engine bulkhead.. descending black rubber tubes..

I wonder if water is sitting in the scuttle, being sloshed in through the pollen filter into heater fan and ducts and is being deposited in the footwells by the footwell vents as they are the lowest points in the heating and AC system.. this would also have the effect of instantly misting up the glass if you turn on the fans, as they would just be blowing up moist air.

it's just the location of the water that makes me wonder...as the vents are just above those locations..

Thanks I'll have a look. Would this not mean the top of the mats should also be wet?

they should be, but it may have drained through the mats and let the top surface dry.. i take it it's only the sound deadening underneath thats now wet??..

as it's been so wet, you may have just looked at the wet mats as water you'd took in on your shoes..when it may have come down from the heating systems..as it's in the corners, i'd also have a look at the door seals in the front doors... have you got access to a jetwash you could shoot on the doors seals when the doors are shut to check for leaks??...

I don't have access to a jet wash at the moment as mine has packed up. I'll check the drains first as you have suggested but I think the passenger side one is in the wrong place. It may be that some has dried out.
The top of the passenger mat is also wet at the moment but its close to the door, near the near side seat runner...... I'll nip out now and have a look under the bonnet

Hmm.... thinking more about door seals now... if it's that far off from the vents and if it's close to the door seals then i'd be tempted to say they're letting water in...

I think I agree, I'll have to borrow a jet wash from someone and test them. I have just poured 10 litres of water down the screen and nothing came in. Just poured out of the rubber drains - glad something worked on this car. I'm getting a little dispondant with this car now as it just seems to be one thing after another.......

another suspect could be the door membranes if this is at fault you will normaly see water sitting on the top off the sill cover inside the car , run your hand along the undersise of the door trim where id meets the door , if you get wet pinkies thats yer problem.

Dip your finger in the water, touch the end of your tongue with it, if it tastes sweet then it's probably a heater matrix problem.
