Default Talk To Me - Nitrous (Z22SE)

    Hi Everyone,

Okay - so it appears my Z22SE 2.2 non-direct cannot be remapped due to having a Motorola ECU. I was planning cams, inlet etc. However, if these modifications cannot be tied together with a map I doubt the car will ever run as I want it to. It will always be on my mind.

So, I have a stainless exhaust, and manifold. The car was rolling roaded with a standard 164 bhp. I would expect about 170 bhp now with these mods.

    I'm now thinking about nitrous - perhaps a 50 bhp set-up.

I am not selling the car for another engine variant as I have spent decent money on this car and really enjoy driving it.

Does anyone have experience with nitrous; is it really as bad for your engine as people make out, or is it just cheap; poorly set-up systems which can cause damage with too much abuse.

    Thanks for any help.

A lot more you can do with the z22se if you're looking for gains, a balance shaft delete will gain you around 10bhp, bigger inlet manifold, exhaust systems etc etc or you can just go flat out and supercharge it. Might be better having a scout around on the forums on www.z22se.co.uk there's all sorts of stuff on there.

Can't supercharge the C due to canbus issues apparently... How do you know which ecu you have, I've an 03 2.2 and planned on a map after Christmas

Thanks for the replies guys. Ian - I'm thinking about inlet mods, balance delete etc, however for these to work together and get maximum gains from the individual mods a map would be needed to make everything work in harmony. I may be wrong though mate, don't know too much about maps.

Lee - Rich (Kman) checked my ECU for me, mine is a 52 reg. Apparently many tuners have these down as Delco? ECU's, which come in the VX220 and Astra G Z22SE. However the reality is some Vec C's (not sure if all) have Motorola ECU's.

I have read about a member who hasn't been able to get his Vec 2.2 non-direct mapped due to having a Motorola ECU. Tuners have said yes, they can map the car; then realise they can't once they access the ECU.

Are they visually different? Mines got a flat metal cover but the Vec B's and Astra's have raised grooves on there's...

I'm not too sure if they are visually different, the ECU may have some form of ID stamped on it, I will check mine and see if it matches your description mate.

Mine is the exact same as yours Lee, yours is cleaner though lol.

Not sure if that means the ECU is the same though. Just searched eBay for Vectra C Z22SE ECU's and they all look like ours. Hmmmmm.
