Talking 16v cdti fuel gauge and whooshing noise under acceleration

Just picked up my new car and all is good except for a couple of issues.

1- under acceleration and on boost there is a air pressure noise coming from the engine bay. It seems to be boosting fine, with no lights on the dash. I am thinking maybe vacumn pipes at the front right of the engine? However seems to come from rear of the engine, are there any common to fail boost pipes round the back?

2- fuel gauge seems to be quite erratic, drops when going down hill and increases when going up hill. Can also just move up or down when cruising on the motorway. The range on the computer seems to just drop and drop too.
Car is averaging 51.3 mpg on the computer but going on distance covered and range to go 525 to a full tank. Based on tank being 60litres and reserve being 10? That would be 48mpg so doesn't seem unreasonable.
However it doesn't work as all my previous vauxhall have, when cruising steady at 70mph on motorway in 6th I would have expected the range to increase not reduce quicker than the actual distance I am covering?
perhaps I just need to do a tank to tank test and stop looking at the gauge and computer

1 - Check the boost and vac pipes for any small cracks and perishing. The slightest split can cause this

2 - Fill the tank to the brim and run it right down, then tank it up again. See how mucgh fuel it uses and how many miles you do. They can sometimes act erratic if you put small amounts in. Reset the BC and take it for a steady run

Well a quick skirmish tonight has revealed there is a split vacuum hose (the short one) that has been glued on in the past. And the swirl bar is off the flaps, loads of gunk and 1,2 and 4 are all in different positions.

so Friday mornings job is to replace the 2 vacuum hoses and try to free up the swirl flaps and reattach the bar. Will also clean the throttle body and egr valve. Going to then go for a fiat style blanking plate as I don't fancy having the eml on and I will glue the flaps when/if the bar comes off!!!
