Default How Long Do/Should Brake Pads & Disks Last?

Car was serviced today and the report said:
    Front pads/disks 80%
    Rear pads/disks 30% (replacement required)

I'm a bit surprised as I expected the rears to outlast the fronts not the other way around. The mechanic said that nothing was binding.

I'm still on the original pads&disks all round (29k miles) so is this usual for the rears to wear out so much quicker than the fronts?
And is it usual to need new disks on the first pad change?

Not a big job so I'll get the bits at the weekend. Didn't expect the disks though!

Rears will run out far quicker than the fronts. I wouldn't have thought you needed disks, check them and see if they a deep edge

The rear pads are notorious for wearing out a lot faster than the fronts. TBH I doubt you need disc's, but without seeing them I cant be 100% sure. There is a grove on the front disc's that show when they are down to the minimum thickness, but if there is really heavy scoring they should be replaced.

Its cheaper to buy the disc and pad set from vx than pads alone.

My rear pads were done at about 38k. Dont buy cheap pads i.e brakeworld like I did.Probably get more than twice the amount of brake dust on rear wheels now.

With brakes i always try and buy genuine parts, have tried "OTHER MAKES" and find that they are made of rubber/rubbish metal!!,i have just bought a complete set of disc's and pads for the front and rear for my veccy at a very good price from a dealer and i will change them when the time arrives.Always handy having parts in stock lol.Remember good brakes will stop you when needed,--rubbish brakes you are taking a chance with life and limb.-----Dave

just got genuine 314mm discs n pads today, will get themn fitted along with the calipers at weekend. Will change the rear pads in near future as the extra dust does my head in and only bought ****ty rear pads as wife had been using car and when i got in car I noticed the brakes were grating.too late in the weekend and had to use the local parts shop.

When I bought my car with 38K on it, they had just fitted new rear discs and pads for the MOT.

Unusual for rears to wear out faster then the fronts?
