    Default CD70 - Sat Nav

I posted earlier about the sat nav in my 2006 Signum failing and this morning I took it into the local VX dealer for a check.

They tell me that the problem lies in the radio part of the system as the sat nav is fed through it and that it's not a repairable defect and that replacement is the only solution.

The cost, are you sitting down?, £3500.00, they priced the head unit and the display as separate items. This is about the current value of the car and is out of the question.

I asked the technician about buying a second hand unit and he indicated that there were some risks attached to that as the head unit and display unit are paired and both "married" to the car and that buying something off eBay for a few hundred pounds was risky. His final comment was that it would be more sensible to but a Tom Tom or a Garmin unit.

So, I'm looking for a spot of guidance from someone who has either changed, or knows how to change the CD70 unit. I get the impression off eBay sellers that it's one pair out and a matched pair in - it can't be that simple, can it??

Just buy one that either has a paired display or a CD70 thats been 'divorced' so it can be coded to your screen

£200 to £350 on ebay, as above make sure it has cheated on its partner and is now divorced.

Just to bring this to a most satisfactory conclusion.

I bought a full unit off eBay from a business in Peterborough for £250.00. Had it fitted by my local VX dealer Nidd Vale who charged me £83.00, which incuded VAT and a car pass from Vauxhall. The system works a treat.

I put the old unit on eBay in 4 lots, the Head Unit as spares or repair, the display screen, the RGB cable and the centre vent housing, they all sold, the head Unit to a guy in Portugal and made £180.00, less of course the eBay fees.

Pleased with myself, especially when VX were quoting £3500.00 initially for new bits.

Can I thank everyone who gave me advice - it's a grand club!!!!!!!!!

Why DoD you take it to a dealer to be sorted ,
All you had to do was take old head unit and screen out and put new one in , there would be no need for programming and shouldn't need a new car pass as its full canbus so thereafter no need for a code

£3500 from Vx? How can they sleep at night? Even brand new it cant be more that £800 and thats being generous. Could also put the fact that its now out of date into the mix making spares not as easy to get hold of.

As much as i like my Vx, and in general have had good service from them, its things like this which really makes my blood boil.
