    Default Bigger battery?

Awrite Chappies? Quicky for you......My bro has a 1.6 astra H petrol with a smaller battery than the tray, he has been through 3 batts in four years, do you think it would be ok to put a bigger batt in, as i think the small one is not up to the job hence the replacements, say out of a 1.8 or 2 litre?

chances are the ones he has had are calcium ones whilst they have big cranking amps ect there really hard to get to charge back up once flattened id suggest putting a little solar panel on the dash and connect it to the battery to trickle charge it when its not running

Thats the issue usually... I'd just by a new one, but I always go a few cranking amps higher then the standard when I replace...

You can get higher amperage batteries in the same casings, he may have been getting a lower amperage battery because it was cheap?? YOu may find that although you have bought a physically bigger battery, it will have the same or a lower cranking amperage. Read the labels on the battery carefully.

Also check the charging system as the alternator may be starting to fail and the battery will die again in the winter as the cold temperatures make it harder to start the car and also you will be running a lot more accessories.

If you can get someone who has a de-sulphinating charger, ususally one with a small amperage, then a long slow charge witll de-sulphinate the plates.

I put a bigger one on mine. Sure it was 55amp originally, and I put a 70amp one one 2 years ago.
