    Default Spanner light Conundrum

    Hi Everyone,

I have a real conundrum regarding the spanner light and engine cutting out. When I switch on the ignition the spanner light is there, then once I start the car it goes out. When I rev the engine or try to drive, the spanner light comes on and 5 seconds later the engine cuts out.

I do not have access to a code reader. Has anyone experienced this at all and if so could you pass on some advice please? I would be really gratefull.

Would disconnecting the battery overnight allow the codes to clear? I seem to remember reading that somewhere, although I may be guessing.

    Thanks in advance.

    Lynchy.

You really need to have the codes read, they will re-occur until you get the problem fixed and the car will continue to go into limp mode.

    Hi again everyone,

Had a code reader plugged in and it came up with no fault found. I can be driving ok, then spanner light comes on and engine cuts out. When I go to start it again it turns over but won't start. Then when I try again it starts up no problem. Can do this a couple of times over the space of 5 minutes or so, and then everything will be allright for about a week and then the same thing can happen again. I am at a loss as to what may be causing this and I need a starter for ten....Please!
    Thanks in advance.

Are you reading the codes with the spanner light on?

Yes, reading codes both with spanner light on...and when it is off as well. Both readings coming back with no codes found. I am totally confused. Car running okay at the moment, but could do the same thing next time I go out in it. Very frustrating.

I have the exact same problem.

Can be driving along fine and then all of a sudden "car and spanner" light comes on and engine cuts out. If i try to start immediately it it just does the same thing. If I leave the car for a while and then try, if light does not come on car drives fine. This happens has been intermittently perhaps once or twice a week for the last couple of months or so.

Did anyone manage to fix this? Is there a way to have the car display error codes without any special device? (maybe pressing a combination of control panel buttons)

Car is a 2003 Signum 2.2 DTI Y22DTR which has done 150.000 km.

We used to experience a very similar problem with our old vectra 2.2dti. I found cleaning the boost sensor located at the front of the engine woukd cure the problem. Only takes a few minutes to clean, we did ours once a month to prevent the problem reoccurring. Gotts be worth a try as its so simple to do.
