Default Checking steering fluid on pre-facelift ?

Hi guys, was just thinking today that the power steering fluid has never been checked on my pre-facelift vectra and it's 3.5 years old with 50k on it.

It looks like the reseviour is down behind the engine on the rack, it's white with a torx style cap (I think).

How do I check the level, I haven't noticed any leaks but i'm going over it this weekend and may as well add this to the to do list

    TIA

On the outside ? wicked, sounds easy to check it then it will need a good wiping over though, it's mingin' LOL ! Is one for hot and one for cold ? Am I right in thinking that the bottom mark is the level it should be when cold

Cheers m8, i'll check at the weekend it's been neglected a bit lately !

the lower mark is the bare minimun, it may also have a dipstick in the lid cap..dependant on model.. as long as it's up to the top mark it's fine.. it's not a temp related reading, it's either full or not..

Whadya mean it's dirty, don't you clean under the bonnet??.. minging on top, mint under the bonnet at the mo for the GSi..

IIRC, I think there was a dipstick built into the cap when I removed mine

yep, all depends on model of car.. those with reservoirs and pumps under the headlights have marks on the tanks, as well as a scale in the lid..

I had a Volvo 850 which had a dip stick in the cap, it was marked hot and cold and on that.

Yeah, under the bonnet on mine is more dirty than usual. I took the engine cover off and gave that a clean a few months ago hehe think i've only lifted the bonnet a couple of times in the last 5k miles to fill the washers

Must try harder this year !

    Cheers

I checked the fluid level this morning thanks to the help from you guys

There is a dip stick attached to the cap and I wiped it and checked the fluid 4 times, it seems the level is just touching the tip of the dip stick. I screwed the cap all the way back on slowly and took it out again, with white kitchen roll I could see that the dip stick was dry besides the very tip.

I was surprised how loose the cap was, there is a small line of green fluid running down the back of the reseviour so it looks like it's lost some.

I'll get some fluid to top it up a bit, it looks a bit tricky due to the location of it
