    Default 314 setup

getting on stripping these calipers down

carrier sliders are out, no rust on them, just greasy, been cleaned down with brake cleaner and a light wire tooth brush.

piston rubbers look in good condition with no splits or leaks.

can someone confirm if the rubber boot caps that protect the carrier slider heads are the same size as my standard brakes? as i have noticed one is missing.

i also intend to fit new nipples and get 2 new brake retaining clips, are these the nipples?

is it advisable to get 4 new bolts to secure the calipers to the hubs?

One bit of advice , you say that the slider rubbers look.ok but if I was you I'd remove them from the caliper housing clean them properly the get some emery cloth and clean out the holes they sit in
Basically the holes.gunk.up.and put pressure.on the rubber which stops the.slider working properly
Also cover the slider in copper grease before you refit it

Yes the covers are the same for all the front brakes inc VXR. It is advised to get new bolts but I do not think many people do and I have not heard about anyting happening if you don't. To be honest you should not need to change the nipples unless they are worn on the flats. If you do get new ones get them from VX

Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

mark do you mean the rubbers that the cap sits on that hides the slider head mate, or the round rubber that sites around the piston?

cheers. i just dont want the garage to runb into any problems, i have been into see them and told them i was going to give them the calipers in the best possible condition i could get them, there was no way i was just going to get these calipers off one car and hand them straight to the garage to fit them on to mine mate.

i just thought it would be advisable to also replace the bleed nipples.
