To be honest, the Board Computer information is much better on the half CAN units.
BC is rubbish on the Full CAN units.

I would have liked a NCDC2013 from an Omega, as it would have worked much better in my Cavalier (Vectra-A).

I have to use a BCM, light switch PCB and CIM to operate the logic control, ambient temperature and illumination functions from my Non-CAN car.
I would also have to fit a UEC to get the check control to work

You MUST use an Omega display, as it uses KWP protocol for all illumination, BC and other functions...
The Vectra-C display will not work.
You would need to fit all the extra modules that I fitted, to make it work.

Hi, a lot of very useful and interesting information here...

Does anyone know if retrofitting a standalone CID to replace a GID would be possible ?

My Vectra is a 2003 pre-facelift (half-can) with OEM GID (with 32 pins connector, of course), BC, automatic climate control, etc. The original HU was a CCR-2005, now replaced with an Alpine CDA-7998R.

I don't care for HU display (the 7998R doesn't feature that anyway), nor for SatNav nor any additonal feature actually : I'd just wish to have the color display (and probably add an external video input module later).

Nor of course I intend to fit any Vauxhall HU. So do you think the CID could be just plugged in (and Tech2 activated), retaining just the existing features ?

    Thanks for your advice !

Do you mean you can remove the headunit and the CID will still work, provided it was OEM installed ?

Regarding the video feed - hmm, well the 12 wire "extra" video connector uses standard RGB video technology
red, blue and green feed, a ground / screen and a sychronising wire.

Not sure of the exact video format used for the half-CAN systems.

I believe that the Full CAN CD70 runs on the NTSC protocol (not PAL), and this is usually achieved with an add-on circuit board available from Germany. A good google round should be able to find you all the information you need.

Regarding why retro fit CID does not work from the wiper stalk, but OEM / factory fit does work.
Still a total mystery to me.

Have we ensured that all wire destinations are 100% correct?

I have found with UEC stuff, that ground wires are pin specific, especially with regard to check control etc... so this may be similar for the display.

Or is there a difference in CIM module to allow for the board computer buttons on the wiper stalk.?

OK, thank you Kemp, I should have misread the beginning of the topic. I was wondering if it would be worth finding a full NCDC + CID set, but it's not if it doesn't solve the problem...

About the correct wiring and modules, I guess trying to retrofit a facelift CID on a pre-face would be much more hassle than necessary.

Provided some GPS headunits existed before 2004, difference should have existed in the looms, considering headunits and CIM connectors were different (or differently wired, for the CIM).

Also, if it doesn't work when removing retrofitted headunits, it may be the consequence of simplified wiring / programming that seemed to work only because the headunit was previously transmitting information in place of the BCM.

Other than that, I can't see why a fully factory-like (including all wiring and programming) retrofitting would behave differently than OEM. Something was obvioulsy missing. But I still think one should try to reproduce either the facelift full setup or pre-face full setup and avoid mixing.

I'll now sum up your wiring hints and compare with the TIS on different cars models.

OK, here are my thoughts :

    - The head-unit usually povides some of the displayed information

    - There's a SWC wire linking CID pin 29 (grey/white) to head-unit pin 1 (SW CAN)

    - There's another coming from the BCM : CID pin 28 (green) to BCM pin 40 (LS CAN High / SWC)

Maybe the CID is waiting some of the information to come from pin 29, but they aren't available anymore. On the other hand, the same information could be available from the BCM.

So why not try and short pins 28 and 29 ?
