    confused Still no power................

    Hi everyone,
as the title says, STILL NO POWER.
i still havent got to the bottom of this prob with my 1.8 vvti (z18xer).
see my earlier thread = NO POWER.
im not going to let this prob beat me though,
    im now getting 4 codes.

1, 0014 = camshaft position, timing over advanced or system performance bank 1
    2, 0564 = cruise control system malfunction.
3, 0420 = catalyst system, efficiency below threshold, bank 1.
    4, 0621 = generator lamp "L" control circit malfunction.

0420 = catalsyt system, is a new one to me on this prob.
im now wondering is the fuel trim off as it would effect the cat.
i read on a volvo site "VOLVOSPEED" that this 0014 prob was cured by replacing the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR on a s40.
does the the z18xer have one of these, if so, where???

Are you sure 0014 refers to bank 1?? I think you will find it relates to Bank 2 which is the exhaust side. I still think you have a problem with either the cam phaser solenoid or the cam position sensor?

    Check your codes on here.

    hi ben5on,
i had a look at that link,
    0014 says bank 1
    0021 says bank 2.
i had the car out earlier and when i put some fuel in it, it got a lot worse.
but when i drove it an hour or so later it was slightly better but still no power when needed.
    FUEL FILTER????????????????????????????????
IT BETTER NOT BE, or ill hit myself with something lol,
but i have not changed it in over 40k.
    worth a try.

P0014 is Exhaust CAM Phaser, if you clicked on the link it explains that Bank 1 has piston number one in it, and B cam is the exhaust, have copied and pasted as below

A code P0014 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0014 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. Bank 1 is the side of the engine containing cylinder #1. The "B" camshaft shall be either the "exhaust," "right," or "rear" camshaft. Left/Right and Front/Rear are determined as if viewed from the driver's seating position.

I had both error codes on mine, I replaced the A bank one, the inlet and this left the B bank fault until I replaced the exhaust cam solenoid.

    at long last, problem solved.
seeing i got the code 0420, catalsyt system, efficiency below threshold, bank 1.
i decided to take of the cat and replace it with my old one from my old engine which i removed the cat from.
once i took it off, the cat inside was in pieces and fell out from the top end so it must have been choking the engine as all power is now back.
ok, i know it wont pass an MOT but it just went through PSV last week so ill worry about it next year.

    thanks everyone for all advice.
