    Default Wahey. New job means no commute!

    After 10 happy years at my current job I've just accepted a new job much nearer to home. It means a pay cut but once I've factored in the reduced fuel and Tyne tunnel fees I'm no worse off, and sheltered from the constant fuel/tunnel increases!

    I've had a long commute for the last 15 or so years so this is a welcome relief! I might start to enjoy motoring a bit more than I used to! And I won't miss paying the robbing bar stewards at the tyne tunnel, something that always stuck in my craw after all the fuel tax and road tax we pay!

    I might even be tempted to go for a 2.8 or 3.2 now.......I was thinking about a Zafira but that's out the window now!

    Congrats on the new job .

    £ 1.40 for a car to go 1 mile through the Tyne Tunnel is a bit much , but the alternative is to go about 6 /7 miles out your way to the Tyne Bridge and then upto 6 /7 miles to get back on track

    and the charge will probably increase due to new second tunnel being finished now .

    Since selling my car earlier this year , i thought £ 1.80 was a bit excessive on the bus for 2 / 3 miles from Shiremoor to Whitley Bay .

    But it seems that you get less distance for your ££££ 's in the tunnel .

    Hmmmmmm ....... The old tunnel and a 260 million pound new tunnel / staff / maintenance ............. versus a fleet of buses / depots / drivers / mechanics .

    Which would have the higher running costs ?

    =====================================

    P. S. = Where / what is your new job ?

    The tunnel fees are gong up next year to 1.60 I think. The old tunnel was supposed to be free after it had paid for itself, which happened a long long time ago. So we've paid for the new tunnel already! They must have been minted from the old tunnel for the last 20 years. Barely any maintenance done and taking good money for letting us a manky old hole in the ground.
