Default loss of power 1.9 CDTi

the car lost power this morning just after I had overtaken in 3rd.

The spanner through the car sign appeared at that point, I assume its now in limp home mode.

I will obviously need to get it in to the dealer as soon as poss, Im sure i've lost the turbo as I couldn't hear the usual whistle from it.

anyway what I was wondering is can I use the car until it gets to the dealer, which wont be until early next week?

I wouldnt unless its absolute necessity. Limp Home Mode is just that - to get the car home or to the garage. I wouldnt put it under a prolonged use until its fixed.

Is the car staying in Limp Home mode after re-starting? If it is it deffo needs to go to a dealer rather than drive it for any length of time.

Are there any other warning lights illuminated (i.e. emissions etc)??

no other warning lights are on so far.

i didn't have time to restart the engine, just stuck it in the car park and left it for now, I might have a go at lunch time around the car park to see if its back to normal.

Sometimes, the car can throw a fit if booted hard and be fine after a re-start.

Are you running it in standard form or with any modifications?

just been out around the car park, the spanner disapeared when I started the engine this time, power seems to be back to normal

when I stick the key in the ignition the spanner through the car symbol appears again but goes once the engine is started.

so looks like its stored some kind of fault, think I would be safer still going to the dealer to see what the problem is

AJA, i haven't made any mods to the engine, totally standard.

You're spot on matey, it's telling you it has stored a fault in the ECU. If you speak to anyone who's owned a CDTi for any length of time, they'll tell you that these engines (1.3, 1.7, 1.9 & 3.0) all throw fits now and again if driven hard. In nearly all occasions it's nothing to worry about.
