    Default safeguard

    hi there,

my vectra hatchback has suddenly came up with the above message and i cant see anything on here except estate motors sensors/ connections to try and remedy it, i cant see any real write up on it regarding where to look panels to remove etc so was wondering if anyone could help,

i disconnected the battery for 20 mins to no avail , when i lock the car the wee red light flashes for about 10 seconds or so and then flashes on a regular pattern, if i unlock it with the key and open the door the alarm goes off till i put the key in the ignition,

anyone tell me what / where to look at to see if theres a loose connection somewhere,

    thanks

The red LED on the dash should remain lit for 10 secs, then start flashing.

As its flashing as soon as you arm the alarm, there is a fault somewhere.

It could be anything from a faulty door or bonnet switch, to the power sounder, or even the ultrasonics.

You really need the fault code(s) reading out. Beats guessing what's wrong.

    Hmm -
The most common issue is with the unltra-sonics in the roof near the rear view mirror.

Usually this happens when someone has carried out a modification to the interior light unit or the rear view mirror.

The general fix is to check that the wiring connector is clean and securely fitted.

If this does not fix it, then your ultra-sonic head may be faulty.
Have you done the closure thing by pressing the button (with the led on it) before locking up your car.

If when you set the alarm, the red LED does not flash for the first 10 seconds, or you don't get the check safeguard message, then this is your fault - "The Ultra-Sonic Head" or it's connector.

seems to have sorted itself out,
the alarm went off at 1 am this morning so i left it off overnight and everything seems okay, no safeguard warning on screen , red light does exactly what its supposed to do
locked the car at work today locked it as usual no issues

Hmm - possibly an electronic gremlin.

Glad it's sorted... if it happens again,

The usual fix for these is to disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes, and then reconnect.
This forces ALL the modules into a soft reset, so that they clear any accumulated errors and re-set-up cleanly.

Do not confuse these errors with Diagnostic Trouble Codes...that is a totally different matter.

Do not pull the battery within 5 minutes of turning the engine off, as the CAN system needs to power down properly.
In a similar way to your home PC.
